Communication Arts:
Our Communication Arts time consists of Reader's and Writer's Workshop and Word Study. Each Communication Arts lesson consists of a 10-15 minute mini-lesson focusing on a specific skill or strategy. Students are then encouraged to practice the skill or strategy independently during their Daily 5 time. At the end of the lesson, we come back together and share how students applied the new learning.
The Daily
5
"The Daily 5" consists of five opportunities to practice
Communication Arts skills and strategies. Students choose their activity from
the following: Read to Self, Listen to Reading, Working With Words, Write to
Self, and Read to Someone. While students are engaged in practice, the teacher
has the opportunity to work one on one or with small groups of
students.
